This substantial solid sterling silver estate disc brooch was made in Glasgow, Scotland in 1947 by Henderson and Horner Brothers. It measures approximately 44mm in diameter, and is based around well-known Iona designs by silversmith Alexander Ritchie. The outer part of the disc features knot work borders with panels and central boss, while the inner part of the disc features a longship sailing in an openwork void.
On the back of the pin, this estate silver brooch is secured with an old fashioned and still functioning c-clasp, and the pin itself is still straight and mostly true. There are the original marks on the back that verify its provenance and maker, as well as a stamp that says "made in Scotland".
Size:
44mm in diameter
Condition: This lovely sterling silver Celtic disc brooch is in excellent vintage condition. It shows some of the light wear or slight scratches one associates with previously loved vintage items, and has tarnish associated with age, but is in otherwise great shape and is ready to wear. I have left some of the tarnish, to show off the detail in the front silverwork, and also to preserve the patina of time, but this brooch could also be polished to a bright silver.

**Shipping Information**
Shipping costs are the cost of mailing an item, along with any necessary packing/packaging materials. If shipping costs seem high, sometimes they are. When estimating for the purposes of listing an item on Etsy, I have to list the most expensive possible shipping destination in a given country. More expensive items are shipped with tracking and insurance, which adds to the cost. If the difference between my shipping estimate and actual costs are greater than $2, I will refund you the difference.
If you are thinking of purchasing an item, contact me with your postal or mailing code, and I will check the precise shipping costs. For less expensive items (under $50), I am willing to ship by cheaper options, but please be aware that this can extend shipping times by 4 to 8 weeks for international shipping to some destinations, and can eliminate the ability to track or insurance the package.
In short, not turning a profit on postage, but need to cover the costs getting lovely jewellery from me to you!
